POWERTRAINS
– The new 2018 Mazda CX-3 is available with a choice of 121 PS or 150 PS SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engines or a new 115 PS SKYACTIV-D 1.8 clean diesel
– Its cubic capacity increased from 1.5 to 1.8 litres, the SKYACTIV-D 1.8 adopts Rapid Multi-stage combustion. A new stepped design for the egg-shaped pistons combines with ultra-high-response multi-hole piezo injectors to increase combustion efficiency.
– Coolant control valves improve engine warm-up efficiency for improved real-world fuel economy.
– High precision DE Boost Control over torque response in reaction to accelerator pedal operation offers performance that more closely matches the driver’s intentions.
– The Natural Sound Smoother and Natural Sound Frequency Control systems deliver an even quieter drive with a more pleasing engine note.
– A NOx Storage Catalyst (NSC) exhaust cleaning system uses a catalyst to capture and store NOx coming from the engine. When it reaches full capacity, a rich post-combustion injection is used to convert the NOX back into harmless nitrogen.
– The SKYACTIV-G 2.0 engines benefit from precision intake port machining and new profile pistons to increase airflow tumble during compression and strengthen turbulence energy during ignition. These changes increase combustion speed for enhanced low- and mid-range torque, while reducing fuel consumption at high rpm.
– The redesigned port profile of the multi-port injector combines with an increase in fuel pressure from 20 to 30 MPa to improve fuel-injection efficiency for waste-free combustion.
– Coolant control valves improve engine warm-up efficiency for improved real-world fuel economy.
– A new barrel-shaped piston skirt and an optimised oil ring profile significantly reduce mechanical resistance to improve overall fuel economy.
– All three engines are homologated according to the requirements of the new WLTP/RDE test cycle, and meet Euro 6d-TEMP emissions regulations.

Driving Dynamics
– The suspension system has been fine tuned and G-Vectoring Control (GVC) optimised to improve handling stability and ride comfort.
– Suspension coil spring fluctuation has been optimised, and the diameter of the front dampers has been increased, whilst that of the front stabiliser has been decreased. These adjustments improve suspension functionality while increasing both driving stability and ride comfort.
– The control characteristics of the electric power steering have also been optimised to enhance steering through corners.
– Newly developed 215/50R18 low-profile tyres feature a softer vertical spring to enhance ride comfort.
– NVH improvement measures include an increased thickness to the door seam welds and a thicker cabin headliner.

Exterior Design
– An evolution of Mazda’s KODO-Soul of Motion design philosophy with a renewed focus on traditional Japanese design, which strips away ornamentation to reveal beautifully honed forms.
– The new front grille design features fins comprising two lines of differing thickness. This configuration helps the headlamps and signature wing stand out from afar, giving the front face a sharp look and greater three-dimensional depth.
– Fog lamp bezels, pillar garnishes and side garnish mouldings are finished in gloss black for a higher-quality premium appearance.
– The rear combination lamps now adopt a ring shape combined with horizontal lines. The mechanical precision and depth of this design combines a more mature, premium look with high-quality illumination.
– Featuring multi-faceted spokes, the powerful, sculpted design of new 18-inch aluminium alloy wheels provides a sense of depth, speed and increased size.
– Soul Red Crystal, which boasts 20% greater colour saturation and 50% more depth than Soul Red, has been added to the body colour line-up.
