2018 Mercedes-Benz Tourismo – Economical, Safe and Comfortable. 2018 Mercedes-Benz Tourismo – Drive, Interior and Exterior.

The tremendous versatility and wide range of the new Tourismo RHD are underlined by the high-decker as a two-axle model of around 12 metres in length. With its very functional interior appointments, this model lends itself to touring and excursion travel as well as to use on regular-service inter-city routes or as a school bus. It reveals the new Tourismo RHD’s strengths as a real all-round talent for use 24/7.

Its paintwork in viper green metallic gives the two-axle model a fresh and extrovert look. The high-decker is painted completely in this colour, including all detachable body parts.

The cheerful impression continues in the passenger compartment, where orange curtains, seat and backrest surfaces in multicolour/black and head sections in orange made of the leather-fibre material ‘Composition’ convey a friendly and youthful impression. By contrast, the central section of the ceiling is trimmed in unobtrusive ‘ceramique evo grey’. The passengers take their places on 49 Travel Star Eco seats in a three-star configuration that lends itself to all sorts of uses. The normally laterally adjustable seats have been locked in place in the exhibition vehicle in favour of standing room.

With a bus-stop warning light system for deployment on regular-service and school routes and a passenger signalling system with buttons in the service sets, the high-deck model draws attention to the many options for its use. The fully equipped new galley with its hallmark brand design includes a coffee machine, hot water boiler, hot-dog heater, sink and large stowage compartment. In concert with the lavatory, the Bosch SmartRadio and two video monitors, it emphasises the coach’s unrestricted suitability for tourist transport. Thanks to the ‘Coach MediaRouter’, the coach offers Internet access.

The Cockpit Basic Plus is equally user-friendly and comfortable. With a multifunction steering wheel, a multitude of stowage facilities and the possibility to install a ticket dispenser, it is ideally suited for use in line service. The Fleetboard Bus telematics system for telediagnostics supports economically efficient use.

The basis of the powertrain is provided by the light and extremely efficient in-line six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz OM 936 engine with a displacement of 7.7 l and an output of 260 kW (354 hp). The power is transmitted by the six-speed Mercedes-Benz GO 190-6 manual gearbox.

With its vibrant viper green metallic paintwork, the two-axle test vehicle model is a real eye-catcher. All detachable body parts as well as the front section of the vehicle are also in the vehicle colour, as is the elegant concealing trim for the roof-mounted air-conditioning system.

A blue-backlit brand logotype in the top step welcomes passengers aboard. The interior picks up on the exterior colour: The seats and backrests of the 48 passenger seats with the Softline upholstery sport an Evo grey/yellow/green colour scheme, complemented by light green fabric piping and mint-coloured Composition head sections. The piano black design décors of the integrated grab handles and the adjustment rockers provide contrast. Light grey curtains add to the overall harmonious effect. The side wall trim in greige is light and attractive.

The galley with its brand-typical design, the on-board toilet and the DVD system with two video monitors round off the high-decker’s luxurious specification. Thanks to the Coach MediaRouter, passengers are able to access the internet while on the move. The power for individual mobile devices is supplied from a 230 volt socket in the side wall alongside each double seat.

The driver behind a multifunction steering wheel is ensconced in the attractive Cockpit Comfort Plus with the CMS ‘Coach Media System’. The roof hatches are electrically operated for ease of use. In addition to numerous other features, drivers are supported in their work by ‘Eco Driver Feedback’ (EDF), ART adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go Assist and the anticipatory cruise control system Predictive Powertrain Control PPC. The globally unique Active Brake Assist 4 with pedestrian detection and Attention Assist are assistance systems that enhance safety beyond that offered by the comprehensive standard equipment. Last but not least, the Fleetboard Bus fleet management system for telediagnostics, which is also on board.

The two-axle model is more than adequately powered by the six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz OM 470 in-line engine with a rated output of 315 kW (428 hp). Flange-mounted to it is the fully automated Mercedes-Benz GO 250-8 PowerShift eight-speed transmission.
