2019 Audi Q8 – Wild Luxury SUV. Audi’s new Q8 is a first for the German luxury automaker. It’s adopted the five-door coupe aesthetic pioneered by the BMW X6. While the Q8 looks long and low, thanks to its sloping roofline, it has nearly the same dimensions as the Q7. The Q8 is a range-topping model for the brand’s crossover is packed with luxury and technology. The entry-level Premium trim starts at $67,400 (all prices exclude the $995 destination charge); however, there’s nothing entry-level about spending nearly $70,000 on an SUV.
For that price, the Q8 Premium comes standard with several luxury features. Audi’s pre sense city system helps detect pedestrians, vehicles, and cyclists in the Q8’s forward path, initiating braking if the system detects a potential collision. The system works at speeds up to 52 miles per hour. Optional safety features include adaptive cruise control, intersection assist, traffic sign recognition, and turn assist.
Inside, the Q8 greats passengers with Audi’s MMI touch respond system with its 10.1-inch infotainment and navigation display and 8.6-inch lower climate control screen. Fans of the new Audi A8 will recognize the interior design. Standard is Audi’s second-generation virtual cockpit, featuring a 12.3-inch display. Options include a full-color head-up display on the Prestige trim. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
One step up from the Premium trim is Premium Plus, which starts at $71,400. The top-trim offering is Prestige, which starts at $76,550. Both the Premium Plus and Prestige trims add a more standard safety and entertainment equipment. For example, standard on both is the Bang & Olufsen Premium 3D Sound System. However, Prestige customers upgrade to the 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D Advanced Sound System.
All three trims come with the same 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine, which uses Audi’s 48-volt mild-hybrid system, produces 335 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Audi claim’s the large, 4,700-pound SUV hits 60 miles per hour in just 5.6 seconds. The Q8 comes standard with Quattro all-wheel drive.
