2020 Ford Puma Titanium X – High-spec variant. Built in Romania at the Craiova plant where the EcoSport is also manufactured alongside the EcoBoost 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder engine, the Puma gains a new trim level for 2020. Set to premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week, the Titanium X “delivers exclusive styling” and “premium comfort” according to the Blue Oval.
First things first, let’s talk about the hardware. Only front-wheel drive is available, coupled to the 1.0-liter EcoBoost with either 125 or 155 PS. The 48-volt electrical system acts as a mild hybrid thanks to an 11.5-kW integrated starter/generator and a lithium-ion battery. Given the small capacity, the system’s battery relies on air for cooling.
Ford claims an improvement in efficiency of up to 9 percent based on the world harmonized light-duty vehicles test procedure. The increase in torque and all-electric assistance under acceleration sound much better to our ears given the small displacement of the engine and how hard the 1.0-liter EcoBoost works in the case of the EcoSport.
“Just like the new Ford Puma ST-Line X that we unveiled earlier this year, our new Puma Titanium X model has a distinctive character all of its own,” declared Roelant de Waard, vice president of Marketing, Sales & Service. “Standard technologies usually reserved for large executive cars deliver exceptional comfort for compact crossover customers.”
Pronounced wheel arches, 18-inch wheels with 10 spokes painted in Pearl Grey, high-gloss black garnish, chrome highlights, puddle lights, and wood-effect appliques are a few other strong points of the Puma Titanium X, which levels up on convenience with removable seat covers, lumbar massage front seats, and Qi wireless charging.
The most interesting things about the Puma, however, are the 456-liter capacity of the trunk and innovative storage solutions. Folding the rear seats allows the owner to fit a 112-centimeter long, 97-centimeter wide, and 43-centimeter high box.
