2020 Nissan GT-R NISMO – Great high-performance car. For about five years or so, the Nissan GT-R NISMO has been one of the pillars of high-performance motoring, on the track or elsewhere. In April this year, the 2020 version of the car was presented in the U.S and now, a few months later, it made the trip over to Europe to show its might on the German EuroSpeedway Lausitz track.
The car was on site to prove to all that the extensive changes made to the vehicle, although not affecting the engine’s output, are sufficient to make this track-oriented version of the GT-R the most potent ever designed.
The key change compared to the version that preceded it is the fact the new car is lighter, and not just by a few pounds. Using lightweight materials inside and outside the car, the Japanese managed to shave off quite some kilos off.
Deploying carbon fiber elements on the length of the body – front and rear bumpers, front fenders, hood, side sill covers, trunk, rear spoiler and roof – Nissan managed to bring the weight down by 10.5 kg. An extra 20 kg were shaved through the fitting of other components, like the Brembo brake package.
All these changes translate into better handling and agility, while harnessing all the power the 3.8-liter V6 engine has to offer, which is 600 hp. The same as before, that is, but felt entirely different thanks to the improvements made regarding weight.
“The 2020 GT-R NISMO has evolved into a balanced, yet extreme, performance car,” said in a statement Hiroshi Tamura, chief product specialist for the GT-R.
“Pursuing driving pleasure is the most important concept behind GT-R, and the new NISMO’s performance suggest it is a car that belongs on the race track – but is also at home on the open road.”
The 2020 Nissan GT-R NISMO is ready to hit the market. In the U.S., the car will sell starting from $210,740 MSRP.
