2021 Mercedes AMG E 53 4MATIC+ Coupe & E-Class Cabriolet Review. After unveiling the refreshed E-Class sedan and wagon earlier this year, Mercedes is now showing off its equally stylish and updated E-Class coupe and convertible. The two-door 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models go on sale in the United States later this year with fresh exterior designs, updated interior technologies, and new, electrified powertrains.

Like the sedan, the E-Class coupe and convertibles receive new headlights and taillights. Mercedes also reworked the grille into an “A” shape and streamlined the look of the lower vents. Borrowing from the Mercedes-AMG GT lineup of sports cars, AMG E-Class coupe and convertible models eschew the standard diamond-patterned grille of its Benz-badged siblings for a front face that features 12 vertical slats. Buyers can choose from a new lineup of wheels and paint colors, too, the latter of which includes new shades of silver, gray, and red.

Inside, the star of the show remains the cars’ dual 12.3-inch displays. The infotainment system benefits from the brand’s latest voice control technology, as well as a new touchpad on the center console. Users can also directly touch the screen to reach desired settings. Additionally, the interior features a redesigned steering wheel with touch buttons that serve as another way to navigate through the setup’s various menus. New interior trim options are available, including open-pore gray ash wood.

Under the hoods of these models sit a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine and a small electric motor that provides as much as 21 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque assistance. Peak output stands at 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque in the E 450. Tweaks to the Mercedes-AMG E 53’s powertrain, including the addition of an electric supercharger, further boost the straight-six engine’s power to 429 hp and 384 lb-ft of twist. All E-Class coupe and cabriolets come with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, Mercedes limits top speed to 130 miles per hour on the E 450 and 155 mph on the E 53.

Mercedes claims it has improved its driver-assistance technology to better detect a driver’s hands on the wheel. Now, drivers simply hold the steering wheel to signal to the system that they are in control of the wheel. Previously, drivers had to move the steering wheel to keep the feature active.

Prices for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe and cabriolet have not yet been announced. That said, we expect these vehicles to see a price increase relative to the 2020 models, which start at $65,345 for the coupe and $72,395 for the drop-top.
