2024 BMW 5 Series and i5.. 2024 BMW 5 Series and i5. BMW today unveiled the eighth generation of its midsize 5 Series sedan , the first with an all-electric variant called the i5.
The models are slated to go on sale this fall and only two – 530i xDrive ($70,500) and i5 M60 xDrive ($95,000) – will be available in Canada at launch. Next year, others will be added to the range, including a 5 Series plug-in hybrid.

Under the hood of the 2024 BMW 530i xDrive is a turbocharged 2-liter 4-cylinder engine that now develops 255 horsepower (+7) and 295 lb-ft of torque (+38). Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 6.1 seconds.
For its part, the i5 M60 xDrive becomes the flagship of the new 5 Series, at least before the return of the M5. The power of its two electric motors reaches 590 horsepower for a torque of 586 lb-ft (or 605 lb-ft with M Sport Boost mode). Expect 0-60 mph sprints in just 3.8 seconds.
The 81.2 kWh battery, which by the way is compact enough not to reduce space for passengers, can be recharged from 10 to 80% in 30 minutes by extracting up to 205 kW from a terminal direct current. The maximum autonomy it provides is estimated at 412 km according to calculations by the EPA in the United States, so probably the same thing in Canada. Good news for our winters: a heat pump is included.
