2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 SUV – Product Presentation / Electric AMG SUV. The first ever fully-electric AMG offering is the Mercedes-AMG EQS, and it has turned out to be quite the smooth operator. Embarking on the electric journey further, Mercedes-AMG has gone ahead with their first-ever electrified SUV – the EQE. The brief is quite similar to that of the EQS SUV.

But with “AMG” slapped onto it, things take a sportier turn with serious driving dynamic upgrades, meatier performance figures, and cool AMG-spec visual features inside-out. The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV seems like a serious threat to the equally enticing BMW iX M60. Let’s take into account only the performance numbers of this all-electric AMG.

Then going beyond the body style norms, its competitors include the likes of the Porsche Taycan Turbo, Tesla Model X, Audi e-tron GT RS, and even the humble Tesla Model S Long Range to name a few. But what excited us more about this bold new “non-raspy” AMG is that it is a well-balanced offering.

We have seen Mercedes-AMG cars and SUVs before, and they are known to be brutish first and sensible second. Well, that’s changing, and electrification is a prime reason. And don’t judge this big bulky SUV by its curb weight of 5,930 pounds because this silent bad boy can hit the 60 mph mark in under 3.5 seconds and tow up to 3,968 pounds.

Mercedes-AMG breaks the norm of making brutish-sounding SUVs with the all-electric EQE SUV that can do 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds.

The Mercedes-AMG EQE is offered in two trim levels – 43 and 53. The base 43 uses the same battery pack capacity as the non-AMG EQE model at 90.6 kWh. It comes with dual motors that churn out 476 hp and 632 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. The AMG 43 does 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 131 mph.

But the 53 trim is the hardcore AMG material. It uses the same battery pack but dials the motors up to 11! It results in 626 hp and a whooping 700 lb-ft of torque. The top speed increases to 128 mph here. To achieve all this, AMG added specific cooling elements, adaptive inverters, and higher current rates. A transmission oil heat exchanger was also added to keep the heat at bay!

But that’s not the end! If you opt for the AMG Dynamic Plus Package on top o the AMG EQE 53, then the numbers go up to 687 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque. This is made possible with “Race Start” and “Boost” functions which provide bursts for added thrills. In the most extreme configuration, the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV can do 0-62 mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 150 mph.

Charging Tech And Driving Range
The AMG EQE SUV supports fast charging speed of up to 170 kW which translates to 100 miles in 15 minutes. It comes with a 9.6 kW charger onboard which can be used for a cozy charging pattern at home. Mercedes-AMG hasn’t been open about the driving range, and being a performance EV it’s better to keep our hopes low. We expect the base 43 trim to have a driving range of just over 300 miles. The range reduces for the more powerful 53 trim with a maximum driving range of just over 290 miles.

Adding more agility to this almost 6000-pound SUV is standard AWD and rear wheel steering. Suspension duties are taken care of by an air suspension setup that comes with adaptive dampers. The EQE 53 gets special treatment with AMG Active Ride Control which utilizes electronic roll bars. This helps the big SUV to adapt to both tarmac and rough roads.

Braking duties are taken care of by six-piston calipers up front and single-pistons at the rear. AMG has also added a tuned electronic brake booster to help tame this hefty SUV. It can also be equipped with ceramic brakes. Sizable 21-inch wheels come wrapped with 275-section Michelin Pilot Sport M01 tires that are EV specific.

Expected Pricing And Availability
Details on pricing aren’t out yet, but we expect the 2024 Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV to start from around $113,000. As for availability, the AMG version will reach dealerships by the end of 2023, only after the standard EQE versions have been deployed.
