2024 Volvo EX90 – Exterior and Interior Details / Electric 7-Seater SUV. The EX90 was unveiled last year and will serve as the electric-only alternative to the firm’s older, but similarly sized XC90, which comes with a choice of combustion or hybrid power. The EX90 will cost from $80,000 but that fact didn’t dissuade buyers from slapping down deposits with dealers and snatching the small number of cars available in the first build year.
Customer response has “surpassed the company’s boldest and most ambitious internal projections,” the automaker said. “Volvo Cars has closed the order book for the time being in some markets because the first scheduled production run is sold out, but it will re-open again soon. In the US, however, we continue to take orders.”
The EX90 is built around parent company Geely’s SPA2 electric architecture, as is the closely related Polestar 3. But while the Polestar has only five seats, the Volvo gets a third row to boost seating capacity to seven. Base models get twin motors, all-wheel drive, and a respectable 402 hp (408 PS) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm), but Performance versions justify their name with 510 hp (517 PS) and 671 lb-ft (910 Nm).
Volvo hasn’t said how quickly the base car can go but claims the Performance model can reach 60 mph (97 km/h) in 4.7 seconds. Both versions feature a 107 kWh battery that can charge at 250 kW and deliver up to 360 miles (580 km) according to WLTP calculations, or around 300 miles (483 km) in real use.
Being a Volvo, the EX90 places a major emphasis on safety and comes with one long-range Lidar, five radars, eight cameras, and 16 ultrasonic sensors. And there’s plenty of additional tech inside the cabin including a 14.5-inch central infotainment screen with built-in Google Assistant.
