7-SUV Front Crash Prevention Test. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is updating its vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention test to address crashes that occur at higher speeds and those involving motorcycles or large trucks. This update comes as only one of the first 10 small SUVs evaluated earns a good rating. IIHS President David Harkey emphasizes the importance of this update, noting the prevalence of automatic emergency braking in new vehicles and its significant role in preventing front-to-rear crashes.

The Subaru Forester emerges as the sole small SUV to earn a good rating in the updated test, showcasing exceptional performance across various speeds and scenarios. Both the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 receive acceptable ratings, with the CR-V showing some inconsistencies in higher-speed trials involving motorcycle targets. Meanwhile, vehicles like the Ford Escape, Hyundai Tucson, and Jeep Compass achieve marginal ratings, indicating room for improvement.

However, the Chevrolet Equinox, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Outlander, and Volkswagen Taos all receive poor ratings, demonstrating significant shortcomings in front crash prevention. These vehicles fail to provide adequate warnings or reduce speed effectively in multiple test scenarios, highlighting the need for substantial enhancements in their safety technology.

These results are valid only for models sold in the USA
