Bentley ended production of its W12-powered Flying Spur sedan in May, but the legendary twelve-cylinder block will return for the 2023 model year under the hood of a slightly sportier version, the Flying Spur Speed.
This addition completes Bentley’s Speed range, with the Continental GT and Bentayga already offering such a version. The company expects one-third of Flying Spur sales in North America to be Speeds.
The specifications of the 6-liter twin-turbo W12 do not change: 626 horsepower, 664 pound-feet of torque, 0 to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 333 km/h. Power is controlled by an 8-speed ZF dual-clutch gearbox and then distributed to all four wheels, of course taking into account the selected driving mode.
All-wheel drive system.
The Flying Spur Speed features an advanced all-wheel-drive system, active four-wheel steering and Bentley Dynamic Ride, which together promote better handling and greater agility at both low and high speeds. An electronically controlled actuator adjusts the firmness of the stabilizer bar to better absorb cornering forces and keep the car flat.
To cool its ardor, the Flying Spur Speed uses the largest steel disc brakes on the planet, measuring 420 millimeters in diameter. At the choice of the buyer, the calipers are painted in red or black.
Design elements.
Among the other design elements that set this new version apart, we obviously note the «Speed» badges, but also a black finish on the grille, headlights and taillights as well as exclusive 22-inch rims (different models possible) . A package that adds carbon fiber in various locations is optional.
As for the passenger compartment, a unique treatment is reserved for the decor and the choice of leather shades increases from five to 15. That’s not to mention the countless customization options. On the dashboard, the driver will discover a new performance-oriented display inspired by luxury watches. The seats themselves offer 24 adjustments in the front seats and 14 in the rear – all with massage function.
In Canada, the 2023 Bentley Flying Spur Speed will inevitably be priced higher than the outgoing Flying Spur W12, which was $271,400.
