Land Rover Defender 130.. Land Rover Defender 130. Promised just over a year ago, the new three-row version of the Land Rover Defender is officially unveiled today. Joining the 90 and 110 models, the Defender 130 will comfortably accommodate up to eight people.

5.36 meters long and with a wheelbase of 3.02 meters, this vehicle has been stretched by 34 centimeters, which gives more space not only for passengers but also for luggage, as the cargo volume increases from 389 to 2,291 liters once all the rear seats (split 40/20/40) are folded down.

By comparison, the Defender 110 can haul up to 1,875 liters in all, and its optional 5+2 layout leaves very little room for rear-row occupants.

Interestingly, the Defender 130 includes a standard panoramic roof and a second glass panel above the third row, which makes the cabin very bright. In addition, thanks to its electronically controlled air suspension, it is even possible to adjust its height from a button in the trunk to facilitate loading. Awesome!

Design-wise, the Defender 130 has its own color scheme including a new Sedona Red and offers a package with more chrome or silver finish trim. The dashboard receives a larger central touch screen, 11.4 inches, still powered by the Pivi Pro multimedia system but now with the what3words navigation application. Four-zone climate control and an advanced air purification system are also included.

By the way, four equipment levels are on the menu: SE, X-Dynamic SE, X and First Edition. In the latter case, the exterior treatment is specially chosen by the Land Rover designers (three possible combinations) and the luxury reaches a peak with, among other things, heated seats in the two rear rows, a Meridian audio system, a driver and tinted windows.

As for the powertrain, forget the V8, oddly enough. The only option in Canada, at least for now, is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine with 48-volt mild hybridization. Power is 395 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.

The all-wheel drive and eight-speed automatic transmission remain unchanged. And if you’re interested, it’s still possible to tow up to 8,200 pounds and cross waterways up to 90 centimeters deep.

The Land Rover Defender 130 is available in Canada from $93,000, plus freight and delivery charges. That’s significantly more expensive than the Defender 110, which starts at $69,250.
