We can now remove Lotus from the very short list of car companies that do not yet offer a utility vehicle. The English manufacturer renowned for its ultra-light and dynamic sports cars has just unveiled its first model of its kind, the Eletre.
Joining the Evija electric supercar and the Emira combustion sports coupe , this spectacular SUV uses two electric motors forming an all-wheel drive system and delivering a minimum combined output of 600 horsepower. It is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in less than three seconds and reaching a maximum speed of 260 km/h before coming to a standstill thanks to brakes whose calipers can use up to 10 pistons.
The exact size of the high-voltage battery is not mentioned but would be over 100 kWh, according to Lotus. Thanks to its 800-volt electrical architecture, the Eletre can be connected to fast charging stations of up to 350 kilowatts. Its range is estimated at 600 kilometers based on the WLTP protocol used in Europe – expect more than 500 kilometers in North America.
Driving promises to be very thrilling, with no surprises. On the menu: an adaptive air suspension, active four-wheel steering, an active stabilizer bar and an advanced torque distribution system. Physically, the Eletre is 5.1 meters long (with a wheelbase of just over 3 meters), 2.23 meters wide and 1.63 meters high, which gives it a template very close to the Lamborghini Urus . The exterior is inspired a bit by other Lotus models, especially with the contrasting black roof, but the face is even more aggressive and unique.
On the sides, there are strikingly styled rims that can be up to 23 inches in diameter, cameras as mirrors (for certain markets only) and flush door handles, while the rear part is dominated by a adaptive spoiler atop the tailgate and an LED light bar that stretches across the width to blend in with the corner openings.
Note in passing that the Eletre is full of cameras and sensors allowing advanced semi-autonomous driving.
