New 2024 Acura ZDX ( Overview ). One of the most daring Acuras ever made is back! Yes, the ZDX nameplate returns just over a decade after the sportback SUV left the U.S. market. Unlike that style-first SUV, the new 2024 ZDX won’t share quite so much with the MDX, and more significantly, it’ll be the brand’s very first production electric car.

We expect the 2024 ZDX’s design to be a toned-down version of the Acura Precision EV concept, which is shown here.

The 2024 Acura ZDX owes its existence to a partnership Honda has with General Motors. Thanks to GM’s Ultium electric vehicle architecture, Acura will get a fully electric SUV in the form of the ZDX while Honda adds the Prologue to its lineup. Considering GM’s heavy investment in electric technology over the years, this may not be such a bad thing for Honda and Acura, brands that have been left behind while others—such as Audi and BMW—offer both gas-fueled and electric-powered vehicles.

Before Acura engineers its own electric SUV in the future, this GM-sourced technology means the 2024 ZDX will share more with the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV than some may realize. That new Chevrolet offers a number of configurations, with an overall driving range set at up to 320 miles. We suspect the 2024 ZDX won’t reach quite so high; most models may carry EPA ranges in the mid- to high 200-mile range.

That’s right, the Type S badge is expected to make an appearance on the fully electric ZDX. With two motors, a 2024 ZDX Type S will have AWD and may have more than 500 hp, like the Blazer EV in SS trim. No ZDX will be slow, but the Type S model could reach 60 mph in under 5.0 seconds in MotorTrend testing. We can’t wait to find out.

Of course, the added performance will be joined by visual updates that distinguish the ZDX Type S from less powerful versions. Enormous 22-inch wheels could be part of the picture, as could sportier front and rear fascias and a number of Type S badges inside and out.

Acura hasn’t revealed the 2024 ZDX’s pricing, but we anticipate an MSRP in the high $50,000 range. A loaded ZDX Type S could cost well over $70,000 with options. That sounds pricey, but it would be in line with the competition.
