The all-new Nissan Qashqai Teaser / 3rd Gen of the Popular crossover. Nissan has announced the reveal of the new Qashqai will take place on 18 February 2021. The Japanese firm also released a fresh teaser image and a short video giving us glimpses of the third-generation model (which is again expected to be offered in North America as the Rogue Sport).

In November 2020, the company confirmed the newcomer will ride on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s latest CMF-C platform, while also saying the crossover will “retain the current Qashqai’s proportions”. Interestingly, the doors, front fenders and bonnet will all be made of aluminium.

The firm said the new Qashqai will employ an updated Macpherson strut suspension set-up at the front. Front-driven models (with wheels measuring up to 19 inches) are set to feature a torsion-beam arrangement at the rear, while variants with all-wheel drive (or 20-inch wheels) will be equipped with a multi-link set-up.

So, what’s happening under the bonnet? Well, in Europe, two powertrain options will be available: a 1,3-litre petrol engine with 12 V mild-hybrid technology (including a small lithium-ion battery) and the firm’s latest e-Power drive system.

While technical details are still thin on the ground, the latter offers full electric motor drive; i.e., the wheels are completely driven by the electric motor. Interestingly, Nissan says the powertrain includes a petrol engine that is “not connected to the wheels”, explaining that the combustion mill “simply charges the battery”.

Nissan also says the third-generation Qashqai will feature items such an active grille shutter, an updated active cruise control system and intelligent LED headlamps (which look set to be topped by high-sited LED daytime running lights).

In December 2020, Nissan gave us a closer look at the new model’s cabin, detailing items such as a nine-inch touchscreen system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality), a 10-speaker Bose Premium sound system, a configurable 12,3-inch TFT multi-information screen and a 10,8-inch head-up display.
