The best minivans in 2023.. The best minivans in 2023. Toyota Sienna.

The Toyota Sienna extends its reign by retaining its first position. The Japanese minivan stands out from its competitors by combining two elements that can only be found separately elsewhere: hybridization and all-wheel drive.

Indeed, all versions sold by Toyota are electrified, regardless of the model chosen. The naturally aspirated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder package assisted by hybrid technology develops 245 combined horsepower. More than enough performance to move the Sienna.

The main advantage of this engine is above all its sobriety. With an average fuel consumption of 6.6 L/100 km, that’s half of an equivalent gas-powered van.

The other advantage of the Toyota is the possibility of opting for all-wheel drive. The power remains the same, but the four-wheel drive makes winter driving easier. The displayed consumption is slightly higher (6.7 L/100 km), a negligible difference.

For the rest, we logically find a well-built and roomy cabin. And with reliability rated among the best in the segment, buying a Sienna is highly recommendable.

Kia Carnival.

The Kia Carnival does not offer a hybrid engine or all-wheel drive. However, it is well designed and clearly outclasses the aging Honda Odyssey.

If it does not stand out technologically, the Korean van highlights its attractive price, good standard equipment and a longer warranty than the competition (5 years/100 km).

The only engine available is a naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V6. With 290 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, it rises to the top of the class and gives the Carnival convincing performance.

Consumption is logically higher than that of a competing hybrid model, but the average of 10.6 L/100 km is more reasonable than that of a Pacifica or an Odyssey.

Add a well-designed and practical interior for a family as well as a good overall performance on the road and you will understand why we placed this model on the second step of the podium.

Chrysler Pacifica.

The main advantage of the Chrysler Pacifica is obviously the possibility of opting for a plug-in hybrid version. Thanks to a 16 kWh battery, the range is 51 km, which is enough to complete the majority of our daily journeys without consuming gasoline.

With a combined output of 260 horsepower, the performance of the hybrid powertrain is compelling. The big flaw of the plug-in hybrid model is that it does not have the Stow ‘n Go system with the second row of seats that stows in the floor. Indeed, this space is occupied by the battery.

On the other hand, the Pacifica also offers all-wheel drive, without however combining it with hybridization. It’s a shame because it would have been a very relevant combination for buyers.

If you’re considering buying a model equipped with the all-wheel-drive gasoline V6, keep in mind that fuel consumption is high, with an average of 12 L/100 km. In the city, this value can even climb to 15 L/100 km, which increases the cost of vehicle ownership.
