Mitsubishi Outlander CRASH & MOOSE Tests | ★★★★★ Rating. The New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin NCAP, tested in December 2022 the Mitsubishi Outlander and achieved five stars. At that time only the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) version was available in the region. As the Plug-in Hybrid version (PHEV) entered the market, Latin NCAP has now tested it to confirm or not that both versions offer the same safety ratings.

The ICE and PHEV versions of the Mitsubishi Outlander have architectural differences due to the powertrain. Therefore, Latin NCAP performed again the frontal impact test as well as the dynamic moose tests of the PHEV version for confirmation, which showed slight performance differences within the acceptable margins of Latin NCAP. The Adult Protection box was updated, however the model still robustly reaches the five stars requirements. The PHEV version of the Mitsubishi Outlander is Latin NCAP’s first ever test of a car fitted with a center airbag, a safety item already required in other markets like Europe and the US to reach good scores in local consumer tests and that Latin NCAP will consider for future assessments.

The Mitsubishi Outlander made in Japan, achieved five stars. The Outlander with seven airbags (two frontal, one driver knee airbag, two side body and two side head curtain airbags) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) as standard, achieved 87.11% in Adult Occupant, 91.33% in Child Occupant, 54.71% in Pedestrian Protection and Vulnerable Road Users and 84.17% in Safety Assist. The car was tested in frontal impact, side impact, side pole impact, whiplash, pedestrian protection, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) city and interurban, Blind Spot Detection and ESC. The Outlander showed overall good performance, stable structures in frontal impact, with the footwell of the PHEV version showing slight worse performance than that of the ICE version. The model showed adequate to good protection in the crash tests and dynamic tests for adults and almost full protection for child occupants. The model was tested as a voluntary decision of the manufacturer.
